For the last few days, rumours about Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray's son, Aditya Thackeray contesting the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections have been doing the rounds. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut has ignited a new debate as he wants Aditya Thackeray to be elected as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
The Shiv Sena spokesperson stated that the people in Maharashtra want a youngster to lead them. Meanwhile, throughout 53 years of Shiv Sena's existence, no Thackeray family member has ever contested elections and Raut's comments on Aditya Thackeray have opened up a new debate.

Till date, despite being out of electoral politics, the Thackeray family have gained a major influence over the political scenario in Maharashtra. This year too, the Thackeray-led political party will be contesting elections with ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Earlier this week, senior BJP leader Chandrakant Patil had suggested that out of the total 288 Vidhan Sabha seats, BJP and Shiv Sena should share 135 seats each and provide 18 seats to other parties.
