Former Chief Minister and founder of Maharashtra Swabhiman Party, Narayan Rane filed an application for Rajya Sabha polls from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Shiv Sena MLA Anil Parab has raised questions on Rane’s application and BJP for nominating him for Rajya Sabha polls.

When did Rane join BJP? On what basis did BJP nominate him for Rajya Sabha polls? If he is a part of BJP, does he have the receipt of the same? If he is the member of BJP, did he resign from Maharashtra Swabhimani party? Because, if a candidate is a president of one party then he cannot join another party as a member. And as per rule, if any party wants the president of another party to be their member, then that party must give candidacy to the same,” Anil Parab, MLA, Shiv Sena.

The Rajya Sabha polls will take place on March 23, 2018, where candidates will fight for 59 seats, across 16 states, including six seats in Maharashtra. From Maharashtra, Congress has fielded senior journalist Kumar Ketkar and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded state women’s commission president Vijaya Rahatkar. Likewise, BJP fielded Narayan Rane and Kerala's BJP state president V Murlidhar as its candidate for Rajya Sabha polls.
