In a major development ahead of the upcoming 2019 general assembly elections, Priyanka Gandhi was appointed as Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East) on Wednesday. Along with the Congress party workers and leader, Shiv Sena also expressed its pleasure on the decision.
Shiv Sena praised Priyanka Gandhi saying that “people will relate to her like Indira Gandhi” while its ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) opposed the same, extensively. While addressing the BJP workers at Baramati, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused Congress of its “dynastic politics”.
This appointment made by Congress President Rahul Gandhi might be beneficial in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Shiv Sena spokesperson Manisha Kayande said that if Priyanka Gandhi indulges in active politics, it will definitely benefit Congress.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik also said that Gandhi’s entry in politics will prove to be of political advantage for the Congress. According to sources, it is being said that Gandhi may contest the upcoming poll from either Gorakhpur or Varanasi.
