Shiv Sena leader MLA  Aaditya Thackeray has made a sensational allegation that the state government is trying to grab the land of the race course in Mahalakshmi. Thackeray also alleged that a developer close to the Chief Minister is threatening the race course management to sign the contract.

Mahalakshmi Race Course is once again in the news after a long time. The plot, strategically located at Mahalakshmi, was leased to the Race Course Management (Royal Western India Turf Club) in 1914. This lease was terminated in 2013 itself. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has the power to renew the lease of plots owned by the State Government. But the state government has the right to decide whether to renew or not. Therefore, the BMC has not renewed this plot. Meanwhile, the management has often shown willingness to pay the lease to the municipality. But accepting the lease amount can mean that it has been renewed. Therefore, the civic body has not yet accepted this rent. Mahalakshmi Race Course's lease agreement has not yet been renewed, but now a new controversy has arisen.

MLA Aditya Thackeray has circulated a text in this regard on social media on Tuesday. Thackeray has alleged that a developer close to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is threatening the race course management to develop the rest of the land by reserving some of the land for the race course. But he has also appealed on social media that the management should not succumb to this pressure. Earlier there were moves to shift the race course to Mulund. But now the developers themselves are negotiating with the management for redevelopment, Thackeray alleged. He also alleged that developers and contractors are using the state government as per their wish. He appealed that Mumbaikars should stand up to save the race course.
