The three agriculture laws passed by the central government has created a huge uproar among the farmer organisations across the country. The farmers, especially in Punjab and Haryana, are protesting against the same over the fear of being exploited.

Although the Maharashtra government is not firm on implementing the three farm laws in the state, the final stance is still unknown. The government is in discussions with several stakeholders and will decide on implementing the controversial agriculture laws.

While addressing the issue, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said that the farmer associations in the state were being informed about the advantages and disadvantages of the farm laws passed by the central government.

“Necessary steps and care will be taken to ensure that farmers are benefitted from it,” Thackeray said while speaking to citizens via Facebook Live. The Chief Minister assured that the agriculture laws will not be blindly implemented in Maharashtra and farmers will not be harmed.

Thackeray also informed that the funds to compensate the farmers affected due to the floods have been allocated. In his address, the Chief Minister said that the farmers in Maharashtra are being made aware of the ‘Vikel te Pikel’ initiative taken by the government.

The Maharashtra government has launched the ‘Vike te Pikel’ campaign to connect farmers with thousands of value chains. The initiative will help the farmers in the state to grow crops based on the basis of consumer demand.

Recently, Thackeray chaired a meeting with the leaders from farmers’ organisations along with his cabinet ministers and senior government officials to discuss their views on the three farm bills passed by the Narendra Modi government.

The leaders from the farmers’ organisations told the Chief Minister agriculture courts must be structured in the state to deal with farmers’ issues. They have also demanded more laws to protect farmers should be enacted by the state government to ensure that the agricultural produce is not bought below the minimum support price (MSP).
