Since last year, the matter related to Maratha Reservation is pending with the Bombay High Court. The delay comes as the Maharashtra state Backward Classes Commission was unable to submit the report on time. However, HC has directed the commission and state government to submit its report by August 14, 2018.

While hearing the petition on this issue, the High Court on Wednesday told the state government to take a quick decision regarding the same and asked the commission to narrate its progress on the report. According to the petitioner Vinod Patil, the court has directed the commission to submit its report till August 14 saying that no extension will be given regarding the same.

Patil filed the petition in court seeking reservation for the Maratha community. According to the petition, Maratha community requires a reservation as it is — socially and economically backward — and the commission was set up to figure out the same.

Resolution on the reservation will be brought and discussed in the Vidhan Sabha on the basis of the report submitted by the commission. Patil has blamed the state government and commission for not doing anything regarding this issue.

When asked about the status of the report, the state government sought for an extension till September/October but HC rejected its request and ordered the commission to submit its detailed report by August 14.
