Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope informed that the government was all set to expand tele-ICU (Intensive Care Unit) services across the state to provide timely treatment to coronavirus patients. He said that with the tele-ICU projects, the administration is making efforts to prevent COVID-19 related deaths.

The tele-ICU service was launched in hospitals in Aurangabad, Jalna and Solapur on Monday. On this occasion, along with Tope, Dr. Pradeep Vyasthe, Principal Secretary (Health Department), Commissioner. N. Dr. Ramaswamy, Director of Health Sadhana Tayde, District Collectors of all the three districts were present.

While speaking during the launch of tele-ICU service in three-districts, Tope said that they intend to expand these services across the state and will soon discuss the same with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar.

Highlighting that the state-of-the-art technology for healthcare was on priority, the minister said that the Maharashtra government was making efforts to reduce the death rate to less than one per cent. The first tele-ICU service was inaugurated by Tope on August 14 at Bhiwandi.

Tope said that the mortality rate in Maharashtra was a huge concern and the tele-ICU service will make up for the perceived shortage of specialists in the state. This technology will help reduce the death rate and will be helpful to provide treatment to critical COVID-19 patients in rural and remote areas.

“We will discuss with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister about launching this facility across the state so that patients in remote areas can also benefit from specialist treatment,” the health minister said.

Meanwhile, Principal Secretary Dr. Vyas said this technology is being used to prevent deaths caused by the coronavirus and the state's mortality rate is declining as special efforts are being made.
