Amid the ongoing protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC), Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) on Thursday called for a ‘bandh’ in Maharashtra on January 24.

This ‘bandh’ is called keeping in mind the current economic crisis and to register opposition against the CAA and NRC.

We had invited people who protested against CAA and NRC in Maharashtra in today’s meeting. We decided to call for a ‘bandh’ in the state on January 24 to highlight the issue before people,” Prakash Ambedkar said on Thursday.

Ambedkar further informed that along with the issue of CAA and NRC, the issues related to the economy should be raised as well.

The government is trying to enforce CAA forcibly despite strong opposition across the country,” the VBA chief said.

Earlier, Ambedkar had said that the CAA and NRC will be harmful to the Scheduled Castes (Scs) and Adivasis.

After the passage of Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), the protests against the act erupted on a large scale and still undergoing. The constitutionalists say that the new Citizenship Act is discriminatory against the Muslim community.
