We are testing far more than other states: Uddhav Thackeray on increasing COVID-19 patients

Speaking on the crowd menace which happened today at Bandra, Uddhav Thackeray appealed the migrant workers and labourers to stay in the state and fight the coronavirus together.

“Some people feel that something strange is happening in Maharashtra. There’s nothing to worry about. We are testing far more than other states,” Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said while addressing the citizens via social media on Tuesday.

CM Uddhav Thackeray informed that more than 20,000 tests for the coronavirus or COVID-19 have been performed in Mumbai while stating that the state was testing more than other states. 230 people have recovered from the coronavirus and 32 are serious among all the COVID-19 patients, he added.

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray further informed that the state government has provided shelter to 5.5 lakh to 6 lakh stranded migrant workers and labourers due to the coronavirus lockdown. “Shiv Bhojan scheme can now feed more than 80,000 people in Maharashtra and the number can increase if required,” Thackeray added. 

Speaking on the crowd menace which happened today at Bandra, Uddhav Thackeray appealed the migrant workers and labourers to stay in the state and fight the coronavirus together. 

“The migrant workers and labourers thought that the lockdown will end today and the public transport will resume. This led to confusion and gathering at Bandra West,” Thackeray said while adding that he and the central government will arrangements for them to go home after the lockdown is lifted. 

The Chief Minister further informed that a special task force of doctors has been set up by the government while stating that the doctors’ task force will tell us what can be the line of treatment. 

“After the coronavirus outbreak, the next battle will on the economic front. We have announced two teams for the same. One of which will be led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar,” Uddhav Thackeray informed. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Tuesday announced two committees to suggest effective measures to revive the economy which has been adversely affected due to the lockdown amid the coronavirus outbreak. 


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday morning announced that the nationwide lockdown will be extended and will remain till May 30. The 19-day extension comes after the 21-day nationwide lockdown which started on March 25 ended today. 

The Prime Minister said that the lockdown was being extended to combat the spread of the coronavirus or COVID-19 while urging the public to be kind to professionals fighting COVID-19 case. 

The Maharashtra government earlier announced that the lockdown in the state will continue at least till April 30 and will be lifted in phases. The Uddhav Thackeray government has made three divisions - red, orange, green - depending upon the severity of the coronavirus outbreak. 

On April 11, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had an interaction with all the state chief ministers via video conference to ascertain the position in each state and to discuss the possible extension of lockdown.
