Sunetra Pawar hails from a prominent political family. She is the daughter of former minister and Lok Sabha MP Padamsinh Patil. Though she largely stayed away from active politics for many years, she has been closely associated with social, educational and developmental initiatives in Maharashtra, particularly in the Baramati region.
She has worked extensively in the fields of education, women’s empowerment and environmental conservation. Sunetra Pawar is associated with several institutions, including Vidya Pratishthan, a major educational trust, and has been involved in initiatives aimed at generating employment for women through industrial and textile projects.
Sunetra Pawar formally entered electoral politics in recent years. She contested the Baramati Lok Sabha seat but was defeated by Supriya Sule. Subsequently, she was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha on an NCP ticket, marking her entry into Parliament.
In the aftermath of Ajit Pawar’s death, senior party leaders are discussing a larger political role for Sunetra Pawar, including the possibility of her taking on significant responsibilities to ensure continuity within the party and the Pawar family’s political legacy.
Sunetra Pawar is the mother of Parth Pawar and Jay Pawar, both of whom are also active in public life.
