Maharashtra State Tourism and Environment Minister, Aaditya Thackeray inaugurated a new art installation at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). State Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde was also available at the unveiling of this new installation.

This will be a part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) ‘BKC Art District Plaza’ Which will be situated near Nandadeep Garden. It is said that this area will also include an amphitheatre, dedicated seating spaces as well as a green space.

It is further said that the MMRDA is contemplating the hosting of an annual festival in the area along the lines of the Kala Ghoda festival, which is an annual multicultural event in South Mumbai consisting of art shows and several other attractions.

While these new public spaces are certainly encouraging signs for the future, it may be some time yet until we see a festival at BKC that includes people. Given that public gatherings are still prohibited in several parts of the country including Mumbai, citizens, for now, can only make plans to visit festivals and go on leisure trips sometime in the not so distant future.

Maharashtra’s COVID-19 death toll has officially crossed 20,000 as per the most recent state data. This is an unfortunate milestone for the State, with new reports now suggesting that Pune is emerging as the new virus hotspot in the state, overtaking the Mumbai metropolitan area.
