After hitting fresh record highs on Tuesday, prices of petrol and diesel were unchanged across the country on Wednesday, June 30.
In Mumbai, the price of a litre of petrol is an inch closer to INR 105 per litre. However, if the prices continue to hike, the days are near when the diesel will touch INR 100 a litre, experts stated.
However, reports suggested that the fuel rates are likely to rise further in the wake of rising global crude oil rates. Rising petrol-diesel prices are a major cause of concern for the common man.
With coronavirus restrictions impacting businesses and the economy significantly, this hike in fuel prices has only added to the worries of the working-class population.
The commuters have been expressing grief stating difficulties to manage everyday life with such inflation. Despite restrictions imposed to reduce the spread of coronavirus, the work for private companies, industries, large businesses has not stopped. While some offices are permitted to remain open, employees have to travel for their jobs and since they are not allowed to travel by train, officials have to commute using private vehicles. With the rise in the cost, the commute is becoming expensive.
Fuel prices have increased 32 times in the last two months. The oil marketing companies (OMCs) resumed their price revisions since May 4, ending an 18-day hiatus that coincided with the assembly elections in key states.
