On Wednesday, February 2, India’s leading food delivery app Swiggy shared the story of the delivery executive named Mrunal Kirdat, who selflessly came to the aid of a retired Colonel.

The incident dates back to December 25 of last year when Col (Retd) Man Mohan Malik, who lives in Mumbai, fell ill that evening. His son Manish Malik decided to rush him to the hospital in his car.

It was around 6:30 pm and there was bumper-to-bumper traffic on the streets of Mumbai. They were just half a kilometre away from the hospital when Col Malik began feeling worse and felt that he would collapse any moment.

Manish pleaded with two-wheeler drivers for help but no one stopped.

It was quite similar to a scene from any Bollywood movie where Mrunal Kirdat secured Col Malik as a pillion and rode to the hospital. On the way, he repeatedly shouted, “Emergency! patient! please give way, move aside.”

Malik was able to reach Lilavati Hospital quickly and get his treatment started with the help of Kirdat.

The Colonel was able to recover in a few weeks' time and expressed his gratitude for helping him in such a critical moment.

Sharing the story, Mohan Malik said: “There was heavy traffic and we were unable to move even an inch. My son frantically pleaded for help and requested two-wheeler riders for help as they could navigate through the traffic faster and get me to the hospital. But passers-by did not stop.

A Swiggy delivery boy was kind and immediately agreed to take me to the hospital. Shouting over and over again, Mrunal Kirdat asked other motorists to give way. Finally, we reached Hospital. Mrunal quickly informed the staff that I was serious and asked them to act at the earliest.

After several weeks at the hospital, I am well. All I could think about was the young boy who gave me a new lease of life. For me, he is truly a “Saviour” as Swiggy calls them. If not for him, I would have perhaps never been able to return to my loved ones. Thank you to him and all the unsung delivery heroes."
