Mumbai is all set to witness an event that will not only tend to look after the citizens' health but also contribute to bringing down the pollution by plastic. Plogging, the fitness craze of Sweden is will soon take the citizens of Mumbai to the roads as the India Plog Run will take place on 2nd October 2019.

What is Plogging?

Plogging is a combination of jogging with picking up litter (Swedish: plocka upp). It started as an organised activity in Sweden around 2016 and spread to other countries in 2018, following increased concern about plastic pollution. As a workout, it provides variation in body movements by adding bending, squatting and stretching to the main action of running, hiking, or walking.

Plastic has become an inseparable part of our everyday life as it has made its place as a non-disposable item. However, due to its cheap availability, the plastic waste despite being segregated ends up in landfills causing far greater damage to the environment.

Therefore, with this initiative by United Way India and Go Native, the aim is to spread awareness about plastic pollution and minimize the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills by ensuring proper recycling.

Earlier last year, the organisations broke the Guinness World Record with the Bengaluru Plog Run for the highest amount of plastic recycled in a single day. However, this year the Plog Run is all set to get bigger, better, bolder covering 50 cities with over 500 neighborhoods.

This Gandhi Jayanti, jog to make a difference. Join the Movement!
