After a 5-0 victory, Mumbai Rockets have been humbled by the North Eastern Warriors, who had lost their opening tie against Ahmedabad Smash Masters. The Warriors were driven to register their first victory to get their campaign on track and accordingly, they sealed the win by gaining a 3-0 lead.

The key architects of the victory, Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk and Rituparna Das won crucial singles matches to lead the Warriors to a win at Hyderabad’s Gachibowli Indoor Stadium on December 27.

The victory run began after the mixed doubles combination of Liao Min Chun and Kim Ha Na got them rolling. The duo gave little chance to Kim Gi Jung and Pia Zebadiah to put up a fight as they won 15-6, 15-13. After which, Tanongsok was compelled to upset the Rockets’ trump Anders Antonsen to lead his team towards victory. The Thai shuttler won the first game for Warriors but soon Antonsen changed tactics and clinched the second game.

As the game advanced to a decider, Antonsen was looking comfortable in the first half of the game and was at a one-point advantage as the ends changes.

But soon, Tanongsak changed gears and broke through the Dane’s defence to register a 15-9, 10-15, 15-11 win. Former national champion Rituparna Das was the North Eastern Warriors’ trump and managed to wrap the tie despite Shreyanshi Pardeshi’s hard-fought efforts.

Pardeshi managed to win the opening game of the set but soon faced total domination from Das who used her experience to win the match 12-15, 15-10, 15-12 and led the team to a 3-0 victory.
