On Sunday, November 7, nearly 119 Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) depots across the state were closed and this number will only increase as more and more workers join the protest. Due to this, the transport body suffered a huge loss of nearly INR 25 crores so far.

Thousands of passengers were unable to travel to their villages and hometowns as workers from several depots suddenly went off work. Due to the strike, passengers have to travel by private tourist buses which are charging high fares.

Meanwhile, the MSRTC workers’ union announced that not a single bus would drive out of any of the depots in the Pune division from Sunday, November 7, 12 am. The protest will spread to other major state transport stands such as Swargate, Shivajinagar and Pune railway station from Monday, November 8.

Meanwhile, MSRTC workers’ union president said that the organisation is already going through huge financial losses and the time has come for it to be merged with the state government. As Diwali vacations were underway last week, we worked so as to earn some revenue. But now the protest will get more aggressive till our demands are fulfilled.

However, the strike was called off after the transport minister Anil Parab urged the employees to resume the work festivities.

According to the ST Corporation, the number of ST passengers in the state before the strike was 27 lakhs. This has come down to less than 20 lakhs. The questions of ST employees will be heard in the High Court on November 8. Earlier, the government will discuss with the state's attorney general about setting up a committee.
