Officials are investigating the matter and as of now, no reason has been mentioned for the suicide.

In a recently reported shocking incident, a driver identified as Dilip Haribhau Kakade, working with the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) hung himself and committed suicide. It is being said that the incident occurred in the morning on Friday, October 29, 2021, in the state transport bus which was present at Ahmednagar's Shevgaon depot.

Information regarding the same was shared on ABP Maza, and the officials are investigating the matter. As of now, no reason has been mentioned for the suicide.

Similar incident was reported in 2020, when another MSRTC employee died by suicide in Jalgaon. His suicide note stated that the issues related to low and irregular payments pushed him to take the step. He blamed the government and mentioned that the family had nothing to do with this. However, he also urged the state transport department should hand over his PF and LIC funds to the family.

Over the last several months, MSRTC has not been functioning well. More than 190 out of the 250 MSRTC depots witnessed a spontaneous strike on Thursday, October 28, 2021, where employees demanded various salary-related issues to be solved along with pushing for merging MSRTC with the state government. Confirmation regarding the same was given by MSRTC employees' union who confirmed that the bus operations were stopped due to the protest.

Currently, over 93,000 employees work with the MSRTC and operate more than 16,000 buses.

Meanwhile, officials recently announced a “Diwali Bhet” For 93,000 MSRTC Employees. Whilst officers will attain INR 5,000 respectively as a Diwali gift, the others will attain INR 2,500 for the festivity. On the other hand, MSRTC Bus Fares Go Up by 17 per cent as the diesel prices witnesses a record high in the state. The decision was taken regarding the same on Monday, October 25, 2021.
