On Monday, November 22, whilst hearing the contempt petition filed by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) against the union of workers, the Bombay High Court told the three-member committee to give in its preliminary report on December 20, highlighted reports.

It did so after hearing the arguments of the worker’s unions, the MSRTC, as well as the Maharashtra government. Post the HC order, the state government had initiated a three-member committee.

This committee aimed to look into the demands of the MSRTC employees. The union of workers want the transport corporation to be merged with the state government.

Since October 27, the employees of the transport corporation have been on a state-wide strike. On Monday, during the hearing, the court also asked the worker’s union to restrain from stopping those who wish to join back work.

Additionally, the judiciary asked the workers who are striking to not hinder transport services or partake in violence. The court also told the government to begin criminal cases against those found to be damaging public property.

The next date of hearing has now been scheduled for December 20. Moreover, Anil Parab, the transport minister met with NCP chief, Sharad Pawar to discuss the current strike initiated by the MSRTC workers.
