The Mumbai local train services will continue to be operational for the employees working in the essential sectors. The local train services for general passengers don’t seem to start anytime soon in wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

A circular issued by the Indian Railways has been doing rounds on social media. It stated that regular mail or express, passenger and suburban train services will remain suspended till September 30. The circular, however, is meant for Eastern Railways.

It further announced that the special mail or express train services will continue to operate. Earlier, the railway had announced the cancellation of suburban train services, among others till August 12.

Meanwhile, Central Railways (CR) issued a clarification saying that no new circular has been issued regarding the extension of cancellation of train services. Shivaji Sutar, Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) of CR, informed that the letter issued on May 11 states that the regular passenger services including all mail/express, passenger and suburban services shall remain cancelled until further notice.

The CR and Western Railways (WR) have been running a limited number of local trains in Mumbai for the essential service workers. The same will continue to operate but there is no announcement on allowing general passengers to use to train services.
