Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has instructed the district collectors to focus on tracing contacts of patients suffering from the coronavirus, monitoring containment zones and treating patients on time without any negligence to prevent a second wave of the pandemic in the state.

The CM was speaking at a video conference meeting with all Divisional Commissioners, Municipal Commissioners and Collectors. Union Health Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal had also attended the meeting at the request of the Chief Minister. He expressed satisfaction especially over the efforts in Mumbai. However, the districts with the highest incidence of coronavirus cases in the state should take more effective measures, as per the CM.

Agarwal, in a statement, said that 79 per cent cases in the state have been detected in 10 districts that include Pune, Thane, Mumbai, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Raigad, Jalgaon, Nagpur, Palghar and Sangli. The mortality rate is also high in these districts, he added. He also emphasized on monitoring the containment zones, conducting door-to-door visits, testing 80 per cent contacts of a patient in 72 hours, and seeing whether any areas are becoming new hotspots.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Health Minister Rajesh Tope as well as the head of the task force Dr Sanjay Oak, Dr Shashank Joshi and Dr Rahul Pandit was also present in the meeting.

Thackeray further stated that when the coronavirus outbreak in Dharavi and Worli was prevented, the special drugs currently in use were not being given for treatment to the patients suffering from the disease. Therefore, the spread of the coronavirus was brought to a halt in the areas with the best planning along with the available medical facilities.

The CM added that the people in the state should not be ignorant, stating that a second wave of the coronavirus outbreak must be prevented in Maharashtra.
