Recently, Elphinstone Railway Station was renamed to Prabhadevi Station. Following this, the culture of renaming stations seems to continue. People are coming up with an interesting addition to the nomenclature ritual. Now, Matunga station might be renamed to ‘Marudevi’ station. The demand was put forward by Shri Marubai Gaodevi Temple Group which sought that the station should be renamed to ‘Marudevi’ station.

Shri Marubai Gaodevi Temple Group said that the connection of Marubai Devi with Matunga dates back to 300 years. The land of Matunga was given by the temple group during the British era in 1888 for development purposes.

The group has already written and sent a letter to Railway Minister Piyush Goyal regarding their demands.



MP Rahul Shewale told Mumbai Live that there are several stations that require a change of name. He added that King's Circle should be renamed to ‘Parshwanath’ whereas Mumbai Central should be renamed to ‘Jagannath Shankar Sheth’.
