As Mumbai locals have resumed for the general public, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has appealed to follow social distancing norms and avoid overcrowding considering the COVID-19 crisis.

As millions of Mumbaikars travel by train daily, the risk of spreading the disease is high as the next two weeks would be crucial, said civic body officials.

As social distance is likely to be impossible in trains, BMC has decided to continue COVID-19 care centers will be continued for some more time. As a precaution, BMC has decided to continue seven Jumbo Centers and 39 COVID Care Centers till March 31.

The railway authorities have made the UTS app available but the same can be used only during a stipulated time limit. This decision has been taken to avoid overcrowding and long queues at the ticket counters, which will help to maintain social distancing norms at the station premises.

Meanwhile, long queues were seen at ticket counters, defunct automated ticket vending machines (ATVMs) at many stations of Mumbai on Monday, February 1. The general public was given a go-ahead to travel via local trains from February but only during stipulated time.

The general public is allowed to commute by local trains between 12 pm and 4 pm, post 9 pm till the last train service of the day, and from the first train service of the day till 7 am.
