With the number of COVID-19 cases substantially increasing, on Thursday, January 6, Maharashtra public health minister, Rajesh Tope was reported to have stated that while curbs were being discussed, there are no plans on shutting down Mumbai local trains. He also remarked that a lockdown was not under consideration.

After a review meeting on coronavirus cases called by Sharad Pawar, NCP Chief, according to narratives Tope mentioned that shutting down Mumbai local trains isn't under discussion.

He added that while night curfew and weekend curfew were discussed, it will be the state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray who will ultimately make a decision on the restrictions. He further elucidated how there were no plans to have district lockdowns in Maharashtra either.

Based on accounts, officials elaborated on how many factors are considered before imposing restrictions. Some of the curbs under discussion include restricting categories of train commuters, reducing attendance in office, timings of shops and restaurants.

A senior official was quoted by reports stating how they will have to take steps soon to curb crowds and gatherings but at the same time, they will have to ensure that it is acceptable by the people and does not hamper the economy. Narratives speculate that a decision could be undertaken before the weekend.
