The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has proposed to set up 500 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state by 2020. After the first phase of Mumbai-Pune Expressway, 50 such stations are coming up on the Mumbai-Nagpur Highway, soon. 

The 820-km route will have a charging station after a distance of 35 km. The stations will be set up in tier-II cities like Nashik, Aurangabad, Amravati and, Jalgaon.

The project is funded by the Union Ministry of heavy industries. Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. Also proposes to buy 10,000 electric cars under the Centre’s National Mobility Mission. The move aims to replace petrol diesel cars used by the government departments and encourage consumers to opt for environment-friendly and zero-emission cars.

The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) has introduced six electric and 25 hybrid electric buses to the fleet along with charging stations at a few spots in March 2018.
