In a significant development for the Kalyan-Taloja Metro route, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has obtained land for car shed for the proposed Metro Line 12.

According to an MMRDA official, 47 hectares of land has been allotted by the collector at zero cost.  The land has been offered as part of a vital public project.  Now a tender will be called for depot construction work, the official said.

On Tuesday, August 8, Thane Collector Ashok Shingare issued a notice for the allotment of land at Nilje Pada in Kalyan taluka for the depot and other work —labour camp, casting yard, receiving substation and plantation.

The 20 km-long Mumbai Metro Line 12 will be fully elevated and have 17 stations.

Total project cost of Metro 12 is INR 5,494 crore and JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) is the funding agency for the project, which is expected to be completed by October 2025.

Earlier, a delegation of the Managing Committee of Taloja Industries Association (TIA) recently met City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) Joint Managing Director 1 Rajesh Patil to discuss various industrial issues including the construction of two metro stations (Station No. 12 and Station No. 13) within Taloja in Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area.

CIDCO has already received CMRS certificate from Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for commercial operation of Line 1 of Navi Mumbai Metro from Belapur to Pendhar on June 21.
