Mumbai Metro: Line 3 Could Take At Least Over 2 Years To Complete

MMRDA's metropolitan commissioner SVR Srinivas reportedly elaborated on how the Mumbai Metro Line 3 will take nearly two to two and a half years for completion.

The Mumbai Metro Line 3 could take another two and a half years to finish since many activities such as part of the tunnel boring work and construction of stations are pending, an official of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said, reported the news agency PTI. 

Upon completion, it will be the first underground metro line in Mumbai that will offer the citizens connectivity to Mumbai airport from south Mumbai as well as the western suburbs. It is anticipated that once operated it will help reduce the burden on the Mumbai local trains. 

During a press conference on Thursday, March 31, MMRDA's metropolitan commissioner SVR Srinivas reportedly elaborated on how the Mumbai Metro Line 3 will take nearly two to two and a half years for completion since many works other than that of the depot are left. 

Based on the narrative, he added that another 1.5km of the tunnel boring work on the aggregate 33.5 km line is left. In addition to the construction of the stations, other activities such as signalling, telecommunications, overhead wires as well as the control centre amongst others. 

Other than this, he also uttered that they'll make a decision about extending the Chembur-Wadala-Jacob Circle monorail corridor by another 200-250 meters for connecting it with the Mumbai Metro Line 3 in a month.
