Starting Sunday, March 6, motors parked in no-parking areas across Mumbai will not be towed by the traffic police for a week. The newly appointed, Mumbai Police Commissioner, Sanjay Pandey took to Twitter on Saturday, March 5 and stated that the police force had plans to stop towing of vehicles throughout Mumbai. Pandey added that the said resolution will be tested in Mumbai on an experimental basis.
Dear Mumbaikars 🙏, I am over whelmed with your response. As a first we plan to stop towing of vehicles. Experimental to start with and final if you comply. Let me know what you think.

According to reports, traffic authorities are of the opinion that the decision to commence such an initiative was undertaken in the aftermath of the many complaints he possibly received post him sharing his phone number on social media.

Based on accounts, an officer from the traffic department elaborated on how there hasn't been any written order issued to them about the initiative, but they received directives to not tow vehicles for a week on their WhatsApp group. The officer reportedly added that they will be adhering to the order for a week and a final decision to extend the order will be undertaken post that.
Many Mumbaikars have responded to Pandey's tweet with one going to recommend that instead of towing vehicles, the authorities should click a photo with the offence and signboard and charge a fine through the app. To this, the police commissioner responded, "Yes plan to".
Yes...instead of towing vehicle, click photo with offence and sign board, then charge fine through APP.
