On Tuesday, April 5, the Bombay High Court (HC) told the Maharashtra government to introduce more customer-friendly measures for those plying by aggregator services that include the likes of Uber and Ola, reports stated.

According to accounts, the bench told the state government to take action in the interest of travelling passengers. A PIL was filed after which last month the HC asked the aggregators to apply for a license. Following this, on Monday, April 4, the judiciary was told that 12 have been given provisional licenses

The judges have asked the aggregators to comply with the Central Motor Vehicle Aggregators Guidelines 2020 until Maharashtra enforces its own. The PIL has reportedly been posted for further consideration in June, in the meantime, they will be observing how the aggregators adhere to the conditions.

The bench added that if there is a complaint, the Maharashtra government can either suspend or cancel the license. The state advocate remarked that an inspection was undertaken prior to issuing the 30-day licenses.

Now with the regulatory mechanisms in force, the PIL advocate was asked to find out the problems in the next two months and asked that the state government from the experiences of the aggregators and the nature of the complaint can find deficiencies in the system and address them in a timely manner.
