The ‘One Nation One Card’ scheme has been initiated by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) on a pilot basis. The National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) or the inter-operable transport card known was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 which would allow the holders to pay on various modes of transport.

The BEST has initiated the ‘One Nation One Card’ scheme at a pilot level to test its technicalities. The use of this card will help avoid cash transactions required to obtain pass or tickets for the journey on buses.

As the scheme, this card can also be used for travels in railways, metro and monorail. Earlier in October, the card was tested at Colaba bus depot and Wadala bus depot and it will be tested on buses as well. The BEST administration will provide the mobility card to five to 10 employees.

The card will be shown to the BEST carrier during the journey and a ticket will be issued to examine if the card is valid on its device. The passengers would pay ticket price only through this card which can be recharged later. The BEST will examine it for technical difficulties and only then it will be finalised.

The ‘One Nation One Card’ can be used for any mode of public transport and it would make it possible for passengers to travel without cash or change. Efforts were being made to increase the limit of card recharge by ₹100.

Apart from Mumbai, the mobility card can be used for other transport services across the country. BEST currently provides smart cards to its passengers which is only limited for travels in its buses. However, the mobility card has much more utility.
