Passengers of long-distance trains can now travel in the Mumbai Local Trains

Information was shared officially by Central Railway and Western Railway PRO team, and stated that the permission has been given on certain conditions only.

Ministry of Railways, in a recent decision, announced that the passengers of long-distance trains can now travel in the Mumbai Local Trains. This was approved post the request made by the State Government of Maharashtra through a letter DMU 2020/CR/92/DM-1 dated December 15, 2020.

The permission has been given on certain conditions only, whereby only passengers who have a valid confirmed ticket for any outstation train will be allowed to buy a non-return Mumbai local train ticket and can travel by local train to the boarding point from anywhere in the city and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) from 6 hours prior to the time of departure of the train on that particular day.

Passengers de-boarding from an outstation train on any particular day can buy a non-return local train ticket and travel to any point in Mumbai and MMR region till 6 hours from the time of de-boarding on that particular day subject to the display of confirmed ticket for that day's arrival/travel.

Officials have appealed to the passengers to adhere to all norms, SOPs related to COVID-19 during the boarding, travel and at the destination. Passengers, as permitted by the Ministry of Railways and Government of Maharashtra, are only allowed to travel by suburban trains.
