According to the data revealed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday, March 21, it has collected INR 40 crores from 20 lakh offenders in a year, who violated the COVID-related norms.

Between April 2020 to March 2021, the civic body collected penalties from those who violated the state government’s rule of mandatorily wearing a face mask in public.

Now, after thorough consideration, BMC has decided to conduct antigen tests in crowded places. This development comes after the coronavirus cases have increased in the city, and in view of the same, officials will be conducting antigen tests at malls, tourist spots, railway stations, ST depots, markets, restaurants.

Moreover, as per the recently released data, the civic body has sealed as many as 305 buildings. Despite BMC’s strict restrictions imposed, the number of cases has been increasing rapidly since February 2021.

Mumbai on Sunday, reported 3,775 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the capital city to 3,62,654.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported 30,535 fresh COVID-19 cases, 11,314 recoveries, and 99 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per the State Health Department.

With these new cases, the cumulative count has surged to 24,79,682 including 2,10,120 active cases and 22,14,867 recoveries. The COVID-19 death toll in the state stood at 53,399. The fatality rate in the state now stands at 2.15 per cent.
