After Uddhav Thackeray government withdraw cases filed in connection with Bhima Koregaon violence and Maratha reservation agitation, Maharashtra Minister Satej Patil informed that criminal cases filed against Aarey metro car shed protestors will be withdrawn within 30 days.

This comes after the protestors who have cases filed against them met Satej Patil, Minister of State (MoS) for Home, on Thursday.

“I spoke to the protestors regarding this issue and assured them that the cases registered against them will be withdrawn and the word given on behalf of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government will be kept alive. There is a due process to withdraw the cases. The cases will be withdrawn in the coming month,” Patil said.

In October 2019, the Mumbai Police had filed criminal cases against several protestors including students and activists. The protestors had come out to oppose the felling of trees in Aarey colony for the construction of metro 3 car shed.

The matter was heard by the Supreme Court which ordered a stay on the felling of trees. However, the authorities had already cut down several trees.

Of the 548 cases registered during Maratha agitation, 460 cases have been withdrawn,” said Anil Deshmukh.
