On Monday, June 7, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray directed all agencies to be vigilant in view of the warning of heavy rainfall for the next four days by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD had earlier warned of heavy rainfall in all districts of Konkan, including Mumbai. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, all the districts in the Konkan, including the Mumbai metropolitan area, have been warned of heavy rains during the four days from June 9 to 12.

Moreover, CM Thackeray has directed to maintain coordination and to evacuate the dangerous buildings as per the need while taking care that no other form of patient care, including COVID-19, would be disrupted during this period.

On the other hand, earlier on Sunday, June 6, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced the arrival of the Southwest monsoon over Pune. Moreover, by Sunday afternoon, it had covered around 30 per cent of Maharashtra and entered Pune and Raigad districts.

The IMD further informed that the monsoons are likely to reach Mumbai this week. Usually, the date for the onset of monsoons is June 11. According to reports, for the fourth consecutive day, the monsoons reportedly made steady progress and as of Sunday, reached Alibaug. 

Meanwhile, good rainfall has been forecasted across the country this year. The monsoon arrived ahead of time in various parts of India. So far, the monsoon has hit Goa, parts of Maharashtra, South Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and parts of Telangana, Tamil Nadu.
