On September 24, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced to reopen all the religious places from Thursday, October 7. Yesterday, all the temples opened their gates for devotees, which were shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eminent places like Mumbadevi Mandir, Siddhivinayak, Haji Ali dargah, Mahim Church, Mahim dargah witnessed a huge number of devotees who went to offer prayers entering these places even though the worship places have adopted all the COVID-19 guidelines.

Commenting on the situation, Dr Rahul Pandit of Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said that since COVID-19 restrictions are eased down, there is an urgent need for people to follow COVID-19 appropriate behaviour. The member of the state’s Covid-19 task force further requested the concerned authorities to observe if there is any surge in the cases and ensure that timely action is taken to curb the spread of the virus. He also asked the citizens to follow the COVID-19 guidelines while the authorities should make sure that the citizens strictly follow the protocols.

Yesterday, October 7, CM Uddhav Thackeray, along with his family, visited Mumbadevi Mandir. He was accompanied by Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar and Deputy Mayor Suhas Wadkar. Meanwhile, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar visited the famous Siddhivinayak temple.

Mahim and Haji Ali Dargah, Suhail Khandwani, Managing Trustee, said that they are only allowing 25 people inside the dargah at one time, and the places are open from 6 am to 10 pm every day. They are also sanitizing the dargahs at regular intervals. Chairman of the Siddhivinayak Temple Trust, Adesh Bandekar, stated that they are permitting only 250 people per hour and only through online booking.
