The initiative was started by the MVA in the initial few months of coming to power. The motive behind the same was to make sure the poor people across Maharashtra do not sleep without meals, and to provide the same, a small amount was charged for the nutritious meal, which is served daily across all the districts. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this scheme proved to be highly beneficial as people lost jobs and means to earn money or find food.
