Maha Govt. forms committee to regulate fee hike in private schools

Parents of students are protesting against the fee hike. An outright protest was witnessed in Azad Maidan. Parents demanded that Maharashtra government should put a cap on the rising rate of fee structure. The Maharashtra Educational Institutions (Regulation of Collection of Fee) Act, 2011 which has been effective since December 2014 requires managements of private schools to put forth proposed fees for the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) executive committee’s approval, six months before the start of the new season.

A new committee has been formed to regulate the hike in fee informed VG Palshikar, Chairman of the committee. The team comprises of 11 officials including Director of the Departmental Revenue Regulatory Committee, Chairman of the Departmental Regulatory Committee, Director of Education (Primary) Directorate of Education, Deputy Director, Departmental Education, Joint Secretary (Law and Justice Department), Deputy Secretary (School Administration).

What will the inspection committee do -

Resolving problems regarding complaints on the issue of increase in fees

Formulating an ordinance

Reporting to the government within 15 days
