Section 144 imposed at tourist spots in Lonavala

As per reports, thousands of visitors have been visiting lonavala in the last few weeks, in the monsoon. This has raised concerns for the government as people have flouted rules and not followed the instructions given by the government.

The state government of Maharashtra, on Friday, July 16, 2021, imposed section 144 at Lonavla. The decision was taken keeping the rising coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in mind. As per the revised guidelines, a group of five or more people will not allowed to travel together. Moreover, vehicles have been banned within a kilometer radius of the waterfalls.

Officials, over the last few weeks, have observed that the tourist spots in Lonavala have attracted a large number of people, which eventually leads to crowding. Despite repeated warnings and appeals made by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, people have not followed the rules and hence, this decision to impose section 144 was decided. New rules were brought to effect immediately keeping the number of tourists in mind, who visit the hill station during the monsoon.

The number of COVID-19 cases in second wave have reduced, but the experts have warned the state about the third wave of infection, and this is likely to affect children. On the other hand, the newly identified Delta variant has also increased concerns for the government and health officials. Understanding the same, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar recently appealed to the people not to crowd the tourist spots and requested them to follow the rules. 

Lakhs of visitors have been observed at Lonavala on weekends. Hence, with the section 144 in place, Senior Police Inspector Dilip Pawar has asked to the citizens not to crowd at the tourist places. On the t other hand, strict checking will be conducted at spots like Bhushi Dam, Ghubad Lake, Lonavla Dam, Tungali Dam, Rajmachi Point, Monkey Point, Amritanjan Bridge, Valvan Dam, Ekvira Temple Complex, Vehergaon, Tiger Point, Lion Point, Shivling Point, Carla Caves, Bhaje Caves, Lohgad Fort. 

Visitors violating the rules will be held and strict action will be taken by the officials.
