On Tuesday, September 8, The Indian Medical Association (IMA) stated that it will hold peaceful protests from September 10 against Maharashtra government's decision to cap the charges of private hospitals for treating patients suffering from the coronavirus.

The IMA had earlier requested for a review within three days. Moreover, 45,000 doctors from 216 branches of the organization have taken up the cause of struggle against the government's decision. As per reports, the doctors are to gather in front of hospitals to pay their last respects to the medical practitioners who succumbed to the disease while treating COVID-19 patients. A ten-minute silence is to be further observed in remembrance of those who lost their lives fighting this disease.

The association of doctors have stated that the doctors are being treated as outlaws and the rates of treatment for the coronavirus at private hospitals were fixed up unilaterally without discussing. This has brought many private hospitals to a halt leading to suffering.

However, the government of Maharashtra has from time to time issued instructions to the private hospitals to charge reasonable fees for the treatment of COVID-19. They have also issued notice to the hospitals that were found to be overcharging. Moreover, they have fixed the ceiling prices that the private hospitals can charge for the treatment of COVID-19 and that of ambulances.
