With the outbreak of the coronavirus, the Thane civic and the police authorities had decided to put the city under complete lockdown from July 2 for the next 10 days. However, TMC quickly deferred its plan stating that it will confirm the same on Tuesday, after holding a fresh round of talks with all the stakeholders.

To contain the spread of the contagious disease, all shops, except those selling milk and medicines was supposed to be closed during the lockdown. This decision was made in order to impose a lockdown across the city which was taken following a meeting between the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) and the police authorities on June 29.
