The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has said that its employees who have not taken even a single dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will not be paid their salaries.

The decision was taken at a meeting of TMC senior officials including Commissioner Dr Vipin Sharma and Thane Mayor Naresh Mhaske on Monday, November 8.

Meanwhile, those employees who have not taken their second vaccine dose within the stipulated period will also not get their salaries, the release said. The TMC has made it compulsory for all civic employees to submit their vaccination certificates at their respective offices.

After the meeting, Mhaske told reporters that it was a part of an effort to achieve the goal of 100 per cent immunization in the city by the end of the month. To achieve this goal, a massive vaccination drive has been launched in the city adjacent to Mumbai from Tuesday, he said.

The mayor sought the cooperation of citizens to achieve the goal and appealed for vaccination. Those who took the first dose should take the second dose. TMC has provided various vaccination centers including 'on-wheel' vaccination facilities and jumbo vaccination centers.

Under the 'Har Ghar Dastak' program, health workers, ASHA (accredited social health workers) staff and nurses will go door to door to collect details of those who have not been vaccinated. A total of 167 teams have been formed for this.

Those who go to the civic-run Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj General Hospital at Kalwa with their patients are required to submit a certificate of complete vaccination. Those who have not yet been vaccinated will be given doses, the release said.

Apart from this, teachers of various schools and colleges have also been involved in creating awareness among the students about the vaccination campaign.

The students will pass on the message about the importance of vaccination to their parents. In addition, the city's garbage collection vehicles will also highlight the importance of vaccination.

The mayor said it was a good sign that coronavirus cases in the city were coming down, but every care should be taken that the infection does not rise, and the mega vaccination drive is the only solution for it.
