As the Ministry of Home Affairs issued new guidelines for the third phase of Unlock, which is set to kick in from August 1, shopping malls have been allowed to operate with restrictions such as the cinema halls being closed. In view of the coronavirus outbreak, the Viviana mall in Thane has taken some precautionary measures in order to contain the disease.

In view of the pandemic, if a customer wants to visit the Viviana mall in Thane, the said person can book the hours by buying a token for INR 10. However, Shoppers will also be allowed to enter the mall without an appointment or paying the fee. This decision was taken to ensure that the number of people entering the mall every day is not enormous.

The process of phased re-opening of activities has been extended and ensures further dilution of the coronavirus-induced lockdown. Despite Unlock 3, strict lockdown will be enforced in containment zones across the country till August 31. The third phase of Unlock has also removed the night curfew imposed in previous phases.

The Viviana Mall had earlier conducted a survey on the background of the coronavirus and how it will affect the people. Questions such as, should the mall be reopened in this survey? Also, will the buyer come to the mall after the mall resumes operations? If so, what would be the priority? Based on these surveys, the mall administration has made the abovementioned decisions.

In the past, the mall used to be crowded with a large number of citizens window shopping or hanging out. Therefore, the administration has decided to permit the buyers inside the mall for a certain period of time after they book the tickets online.

In an interesting development, results of a survey conducted by Viviana Mall across Thane and the MMR threw up some interesting revelations where patrons of the mall were subjected to a series of questions to ascertain their preferences and choices when it came to the reopening of the mall in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. The survey results showed 61% of the shoppers are ready to pre-book their visit to the mall and 48 per cent of the total visitors would prefer to make an appointment with a store they want to shop at. A whopping 68 per cent of shoppers expressed interest in visiting the mall for various reasons in the initial month of the mall’s reopening.

As per the findings, 11 per cent of the footfalls are expected immediately after the mall has reopened, 34 per cent within a week of re-opening and 23 per cent  have confirmed about visiting with a month. Almost 50 per cent of the respondents also shared willingness to pay a nominal convenience fee for the facilities that will be put up to ensure the visitors get a safer environment to make their purchases at.

The mall can be further accessed by scanning the QR code received after the registration. The administration has also clarified that buyers will not be allowed to enter the mall without prior registration.
