Even though Thane has witnessed a surge in the cases of coronavirus, the number of patients recovering from the disease have also been on a rise. At the moment, the recovery rate in Thane is 66 per cent whereas 3.36 per cent of people that contracted the disease are now no more. So far, 11,584 patients have recovered from the disease.

On Monday, July 27, the number of cases of coronavirus in Maharashtra's Thane district, which is part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), rose by 1,474 to 80,041. With 36 more patients succumbing to the infection, the toll has mounted to 2,189.

The deceased included a 55-year-old assistant sub-inspector of police from Kalyan. Meanwhile, of the total 80,041 cases, 23,640 patients are undergoing treatment at various hospitals. Meanwhile, the tally of cases in neighbouring Palghar district went up to 14,101 with the addition of 284 new patients while the death toll rose to 267.

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) on Saturday cancelled the registration of Horizon Primary to a private hospital in Ghodbunder area. In view of private hospitals charging exorbitant fees from the patients suffering from the coronavirus, a preliminary report of an expert committee appointed by the Municipal Corporation has revealed that the management of Horizon Prime Hospital has charged unreasonable fees from COVID-19 patients.

Earlier, four private hospitals in Borivali had been asked to stop treating cases of coronavirus following multiple complaints of the patients being overcharged.
