The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most prestigious and cash-rich tournaments in India and the 12th edition of the T20 tournament will soon take place in India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India recently declared IPL will begin this year from March 23. The entire schedule will be soon declared by BCCI as the date for finals is yet to be decided.

There were talks earlier that the T20 tournament would be shifted out of India due to a possible clash with the 2019 general elections. The Lok Sabha elections will be taking place between April and May. Earlier, an IPL official had stated that the schedule will be declared only after the dates for the general elections were declared.

The competition has been held outside India in 2009 and the first half of the 2014 edition was held in United Arab Emirates (UAE). Alongside, it is also possible that the dates have been advanced to give the players enough time to rest and prepare for the 2019 World Cup, which will begin May 30 onwards in England.

The Hon'ble Supreme Court of India appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) on Tuesday met in New Delhi to discuss the VIVO IPL 2019 venues and window. It is proposed that the VIVO IPL 2019 will commence on March 23, 2019. The detailed schedule will be finalised in consultation with the appropriate authorities." the BCCI said in a release.

IPL 2018 had begun on April 7 and the final was held on May 27. The title was won by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the finals of the tournament.
