In their second encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Mumbai Indians defeated Chennai Super Kings by 46 runs.

The Super Kings were bested by Mumbai bowlers who defended the 156-run target. The Lions were led by Suresh Raina after captain MS Dhoni was rested due to fever.

Winning the toss, Suresh Raina decided to bowl first against a strong Mumbai batting line-up. While Mumbai Indians were off a horrible start, captain Rohit Sharma and Carribbean batsman Evin Lewis steadied the innings for Mumbai Indians.

Skipper Rohit Sharma went on to score his 35 IPL fifty, top-scoring with 67 as Evin Lewis chipped in with 32. Hardik Pandya played a handy knock to ensure a defendable target on board. Later in the match, Lasith Malinga picked up 4 wickets as Krunal Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah took 2 each. Hardik Pandya and Anukul Roy pitched in with 1 wicket each.

With this win, Mumbai Indians have kept their hopes of reaching the IPL playoffs. Mumbai will now play their next match on April 28 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
