The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced a deadline extension till July 9 for applying for the position of coaches of Mumbai Ranji and U-19 teams. The Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) made the decision after their meeting in Mumbai.

Prior to the extension, the cricket body had set July 4 as the deadline to submit the applications and the interviews were scheduled for July 6.

The CIC meeting was chaired by former India fast bowler Karsan Ghavri who said that they had received many applications but they needed a little more time to scrutinise the applications and so they had extended the deadline by three days. He also added that this was a second chance for people who had missed out on submitting the application earlier and have more time to reconsider to apply.

He declared that the interview for candidates that have applied has been scheduled for Wednesday and the CIC will also have a meeting for the same purpose. When asked about the extension in time, he replied that the cricket body had received fewer applications than their expectations.

Ghavri also added that CIC has outsourced a professional company to appoint physios and trainers.

Amongst the applicants, former off-spinner Ramesh Powar, ex-India keeper Ajay Ratra and ex-Mumbai stumper Vinayak Samant are the top contenders for Mumbai's Ranji coach. Whereas former Mumbai all-rounder Kiran Powar aims to apply for coaching the U-19 Mumbai team.
