On Tuesday, a special holiday court remanded Anil Deshmukh, former state home minister in Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody till November 6 in relation to the money-laundering case, highlighted reports.

Deshmukh was taken before the court and the arguments on the remand plea began at 12.30 pm. ASG Anil Singh sought 14 days custody and Deshmukh was arrested soon after midnight. This was hours after he came to the ED office to record his statement at noon on Monday, stated accounts.

In its first chargesheet, the ED claimed that Deshmukh through his PA had collected INR 4.7CR from the now-dismissed assistant police inspector, Sachin Waze in cash. Then, Waze was heading the CIU branch of Mumbai police. According to accounts, Waze had collected the money from orchestra bar owners of Mumbai illegally for Deshmukh.

From the money collected, INR 4.18cr was transferred to Deshmukh’s educational trust that was based in Nagpur by means of shell companies through hawala operators based in Delhi, posing it to be a donation.

Once Deshmukh appeared before the ED, his team released a pre-recorded video message. In the video, Deshmukh stated that Pram Bir Singh the former Mumbai police commissioner made false allegations against him and that Singh had now fled the country.
