The Mumbai Police have filed a fresh FIR against Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami for allegedly creating communal hatred in connection with the crowd gathering outside Bandra (W) railway station.

The FIR has been filed on the complaint of Irfan Abubakar Sheikh who has accused both the channel and Goswami of making derogatory remarks regarding a mosque located in suburban Bandra. The migrant workers had gathered outside the station and near the mosque on April 14 demanding to go home.

The case has been filed on the charge of hurting religious sentiments and the FIR states that Goswami displayed a picture of the mosque and questioned the gathering of people outside it during his show on April 29.

The FIR was lodged in Pydhonie police station in south Mumbai on Saturday by Irfan Abubakar Sheikh who is the secretary of Raza Education Society. Sheikh claimed that Arnab Goswami targeted the mosque which had no connection to the gathering on April 14.

The Republic TV Editor-in-Chief has been booked under sections 153, 153-A, 295-A, 500, 511, 120-b and other sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Mumbai police official informed.

Earlier, Mumbai Police grilled Arnab Goswami for nearly 12 hours in connection with his alleged diminishing remarks made against Congress President Sonia Gandhi and for inciting communal hatred over the Palghar incident where two sadhus and their drivers were killed by an angry mob.

As this happened, the Supreme Court had granted Goswami three-week protection from any coercive action on FIRs against him for alleged defamatory statements against Sonia Gandhi.

Multiple FIRs were filed against Arnab Goswami in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana for his allegedly defaming Sonia Gandhi, inciting communal hatred over the Palghar incident and spreading misinformation and fake news related to COVID-19 via his channel.
