Karnataka SIT arrives in Mumbai to probe Gauri Lankesh murder case

In connection to the senior journalist Gauri Lankesh murder case, Karnataka Police SIT probing the case arrived in Mumbai to check if those arrested by Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in connection with seizure of explosives and arms had any links to her killing.  

Lankesh (55) who was strongly opinionated about right-wing parties, was gunned down last year on September 5 in front of her house in Karnataka.

The SIT team will get access to those arrested in connection with the seizure of crude bombs, explosives and arms which also includes 7.65 mm pistols. The ATS had arrested Vaibhav Raut, Sharad Kalaskar, Sudhanwa Gondhalekar, ex-councillor Shrikant Pangarkar and Avinash Pawar in this case.

On August 10, ATS arrested Raut and later nabbed Kalaskar (25) and Gondhalekar (39), following raids in Palghar and Pune districts. The Karnataka SIT will probe the bullet casings found near Lankesh’s house and will see if they match with the guns seized by the ATS.

In connection with Lankesh’s killing, the Karnataka SIT had arrested Pune resident Amol Kale. They believe that Kale might have met some of the accused on his visit to Aurangabad. They also suspect that Kale and Virendra Tawde, who was arrested by the CBI for killing Dabholkar had planned Lankesh’s murder as well.
