42-year-old police constable loses life to a pothole on the Sion-Panvel highway

42-year-old Santosh Shinde, a constable with Mumbai police died after his bike skid on a pothole on the Sion-Panvel highway. Shinde suffered a head injury after which he was admitted to Vashi’s MGM Hospital. However, after seven days, he succumbed to his injuries and lost his life. Vashi police have filed a complaint against the contractor who was responsible for the poor condition of the Sion-Panvel highway.

This is how accident took place
On August 31, Santosh Shinde was on duty in Vile Parle, finished his work and left for home in Navi Mumbai. He rode his bike in the direction of Vashi village signal where due to poor streetlight, he missed a big pothole and suddenly his bike skid and he was thrown on the road. He suffered grievous head injuries and lost his life on Thursday night at around 12:35 am. His final rites took place at Satara’s Tasgaon. His family includes his wife (38), son Vignesh (13) and daughter Sai (8).

We saw a 2.5 feet long and 1-metre wide pothole which took my brother's life. We immediately went to Vashi police station and filed a complaint against the contractor," Santosh Shinde, brother.


I lost my husband because of a pothole. If the road would have been in a good condition, then the accident would not have taken place. One pothole destroyed my family," Vaishali Shinde, wife.

Praiseworthy performance
Santosh Shinde joined Mumbai police in 1996 where he was felicitated by police commissioner for his excellent investigative skills and also bagged 20 awards for the same.
