Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami on Tuesday moved to the Supreme Court seeking interim bail in connection with the Anvay Naik suicide case. He has challenged Bombay High Court’s order refusing him bail in the 2018 abetment of suicide case.

The Bombay HC on Monday rejected the bail plea filed by Goswami. He remains in judicial custody and is lodged at Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai. Goswami and two others were arrested by Alibaug police in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on November 4.

A bench of Justices SS Shinde and MS Karnik said that Goswami was free to move to the local court for the relief. Goswami, however, has moved to Supreme Court seeking interim bail in connection with the suicide of Anvay Naik and his mother in 2018 over the alleged non-payment of dues by the companies of the accused.

Naik, an architect and interior designer, reportedly designed the set of Republic TV. In his suicide note, he named Goswami and other others while alleging that his dues were not paid by the channel.

Goswami has alleged that he was assaulted by Alibaug jailer on Saturday evening, that his life was in danger and that he was not allowed to speak to his lawyer. He was shifted to jail from a prison quarantine centre on Sunday after allegedly being found using a mobile phone.
